University of Puerto Rico Radio and Humberto Ramirez Big Band Salute Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez

Radio University of Puerto Rico (UPR) will present the Puente & Rodríguez concert: 100 Years of Swing with Humberto Ramírez and his Big Band, on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Río Piedras Campus Theater of the UPR at 8:30 p.m., as announced in a press release.
“During this year, countless international presentations have been made in their honor, and to close the celebration, Humberto Ramírez and his Big Band made up of 20 musicians, pay tribute to the career of the kings of mambo in a concert to benefit the public radio station of the university of the people of Puerto Rico,” announced today the director of Radio Universidad, Susanne Marte.
“This concert, to benefit the Radio Universidad programming fund, aims to present a different alternative, with a varied repertoire of these two musical geniuses. “His music is a global language and has the power to bridge distances and unite generations,” she added.
As mentioned in the note, Tito Puente, an iconic timbalero, percussionist, and conductor, and his counterpart Tito Rodríguez, a singer and conductor born in San Juan, revolutionized Latin music in the 1950s and 1960s. Their contributions changed the course of the music scene in Puerto Rico the United States, Latin America, and the entire world. Their impact is still felt today.
Humberto Ramírez, a trumpeter and composer, admired the visionary musicians Tito Puente and Tito Rodríguez. He mentioned that both of them were very particular about the quality of the music they produced. Ramírez considers them his mentors and believes there is always something new to learn from them. He grew up listening to their music and now leads his exceptional band to pay tribute to the Mambo Kings.
