7-time Grammy nominee, Cuban composer, and pianist Omar Sosa is one of today’s most versatile artists. He is known worldwide for masterfully and seamlessly infusing his Afro-Cuban roots with jazz, world music, and electronic elements and creating an exciting, original sound that transcends classification.
The latest twist in Sosa’s creative journey is his Quarteto Americanos, based on formative relationships he forged and developed in the San Francisco Bay area in the mid-90s. The quartet combines funk, jazz, Afro-Cuban grooves, and Sosa’s melodic and imaginative artistry.
Experience the brilliance of Omar Sosa with his multi-directional quartet, including multi-reed player Sheldon BrownJosh Jones on drums, and Ernesto Mazar Kindelán on baby bass.
Additionally, Sosa’s tour celebrates the release of the acclaimed documentary film Omar Sosa’s 88 Well-Tuned Drums and an accompanying soundtrack LP.
The documentary showcases the work of Omar Sosa, covering his compositions, leadership of a musical group, and recordings. Also, it highlights the diversity of his styles and influences, ranging from solo piano to big band, from Africa to Cuba and other communities of the Diaspora, and from jazz and various folk traditions to Western classical music. The vinyl soundtrack comprises music from eight of Omar Sosa’s albums, including three GRAMMY-nominated titles – ‘Sentir’ (2002), ‘Eggun’ (2009), and ‘Across the Divide’ (2013).
Whether you are a fan or a newcomer, the film and vinyl offer an excellent opportunity to appreciate Omar’s music and creative process. Like Sosa, the repertoire is diverse and stimulating.
