Born in 1994, Chico Pérez comes from a family of musicians, learned classical piano early, and began performing at six. He graduated from a music school in Jaén and later moved to Madrid, where he debuted. His first album was released in 2019 and was nominated for Best Flamenco Album. Chico Pérez is currently a rising star in the world of flamenco jazz.
May Inoue was born in 1991 and started playing guitar at 15, although his professional career began while he was still in high school. In 2012, he moved to the US, where he studied on a scholarship at the Berklee College of Music. After completing his studies, he moved to New York to focus on live performances. He now resides in Japan and is known among jazz enthusiasts for his collaborations with foreign artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Chico and May had separate performances on Oh! Jazz was recorded at Café Berlin in Spain and Body&Soul in Japan, but they had never played together or met. The Oh! Jazz team brought them together last November at Club Matador in Madrid, a perfect space for culture and gastronomy.
The concert allows the audience to enjoy the duo’s performance of several of their compositions and the significant compatibility between Chico’s piano tones and May’s guitar, where both artists take turns between solo and accompaniment moments.
