Multicultural Music Group (MMG) at Lehman College Lovinger Theater, June 7 at 7 PM.

THE MULTICULTURAL MUSIC GROUP, INC. (MMG) is thrilled to announce the final concert of its 2924 Multicultural Music Encounters series, which will be held on Friday, June 7th, at 7 PM at the Lovinger Theater, Lehman College, 250 Bedford Park Blvd
The performance will showcase a dynamic retrospective celebrating almost 30 years of the MMG’s commissions by Afro-Indigenous composers. Featuring works from its first twelve years as an activist ensemble, the 35-piece MMG Orchestra will perform symphonic commissions by Charlie Palmieri, Ray Santos, Eddie Palmieri, and Bruce Purse.

The Multicultural Music Group, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 1996. Its mission is to present history through music by showcasing the rich history and traditions of people of color. Based in the South Bronx, MMG presents large and small ensembles led by Afro-Indigenous individuals in economically disadvantaged communities.
The organization promotes diversity in orchestral repertoire to ensure a wide range of voices and perspectives are represented in the music. By exposing audiences to past and present composers of color, MMG aims to bridge gaps in access to world music and promote social justice through more inclusive engagement with music.
A graduate of Empire State College with a dual major in journalism and Latin American studies, Editor-in-Chief Tomas Peña has spent years applying his knowledge and writing skills to the promotion of great musicians. A specialist in the crossroads between jazz and Latin music, Peña has written extensively on the subject. His writing appears on Latin Jazz Network; Chamber Music America magazine and numerous other publications.
