Jane Bunnett has established an international reputation for creative integrity, improvisational daring, and courageous artistry. Her exploration of Afro–Cuban melodies expresses the universality of music as she’s embraced the rhythms and culture of Cuba in combination with her gifts as a flutist, saxophonist, and pia¬nist. In 2012, Bunnett created Maqueque as a project to record and mentor young Cuban female musi¬cians; over time, it became one of the top groups on the North American jazz scene. Jane Bunnett & Maqueque have played major jazz festivals like Newport and Monterey; the group was featured on NPR’s “Jazz Night in America,” and received a GRAMMY Award nomination for their newest release, Oddara (Linus Entertainment, 2016).
