Release Date: September 25, 2015
Ten-time Grammy winner Eddie Palmieri, one of the most renowned Latin pianists, composers, and arrangers, is launching two new singles via CD Baby this September. Big band renditions of his renowned compositions “Vámonos Pa’l Monte” and “Pa’La Ocha Tambó,” these two new singles are the latest music releases from Eddie Palmieri since the introduction of his last Grammy-winner albums “Listen Here” and “Simpático”.
“Vámonos Pa’l Monte” is one of Palmieri’s most popular compositions, recorded originally in 1971 with his brother Charlie Palmieri, and this time rendered with a big band arrangement. “Pa’ La Ocha Tambó”, an underground hit and a staple in many Palmieri Live performances, was first recorded live in 1971 at the Sing Sing Penitentiary and was never recorded in a studio until now.
In these two new renditions, Palmieri reminds us of his reputation as a groundbreaking performer, composer, and arranger. His trademark percussive piano style, as well as his relentless and complex piano solos, shine in these two new renderings. His band, an ensemble of the finest Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz musicians, showcases that signature musical style that constantly challenges the boundaries of Afro-Cuban music and excites his fans the world over.
Eddie’s son, Eddie Palmieri II, has also been his manager for more than 20 years, and he was a driving force during the conception and execution of these two singles. During flights from city to city while touring with his father, Eddie II persuaded him to commission a big band arrangement for “Vámonos Pa’l Monte”, aspiring to match the iconic original recording with his uncle Charlie Palmieri. It was also Eddie II’s drive that prompted his father to record “Pa’ La Ocha Tambó” in a studio for the first time, a duty long overdue since the original live recording at Sing Sing.
CD Baby, who partnered with Eddie Palmieri before and will distribute these new singles, is delighted to work with Palmieri. “It’s an absolute thrill to work with a legend like Eddie again,” says Ben Hubbird, head of Label Relations at CD Baby, “and these dynamic new recordings are proof of his unmistakable music and creative drive”
“These two singles are going to be ‘killer hits’”, says Palmieri. “New renditions of classic compositions; one of them orchestrated with a big band and with the best musicians you can find in the genre today in New York, the ‘mecca’ of Latin music in the world. And CD Baby is the perfect partner for this project.”
“Vamonos Pa’l Monte” and “Pa’ La Ocha Tambó” will be available digitally on September 25th, 2015. A Limited-Edition CD for collectors will become available soon.
